Programme Delivery Guide
International Affairs
This guide details the modules on offer for completion of our Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Arts degree in International Affairs. All modules will span a six-to-seven week teaching period.
The MA in International Affairs is 180 credits and is achieved through completion of the following modules:
- All four modules from the lighter blue group
- The Introduction to Critical Research Methodologies module from the red group
- An additional two modules of your choice from the red group
- The Critical Engagement with Literature module from the navy blue group
- An additional two modules of your choice from the navy blue group
- An additional two modules of your choice from the navy blue group
The Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs is 120 credits and is achieved through completion of the following modules:
- All four modules from the lighter blue group
- The Introduction to Critical Research Methodologies module from the red group
- An additional two modules of your choice from the red group
- One module of your choice from the navy blue group
The Postgraduate Certificate in International Affairs is 60 credits and is achieved through completion of all four modules from the lighter blue group in the table to the right.

International Affairs MA
This guide details the modules on offer for completion of our master’s
degree awarded for the Espionage & Surveillance specialism. All modules
are worth 15 credits each and will span a six-seven week teaching period.
The MA in International Affairs (with Espionage & Surveillance) (180 credits) is achieved
through completion of the following modules:
- All four modules from the lighter blue group
- Introduction to Critical Research Methodologies (red group)
- Intelligence, Espionage & Surveillance (red group)
- One additional module from the red group
- Critical Engagement with Literature (navy blue group)
- Intelligence in Conflict (navy blue group)
- One additional module from the navy blue group
- Dissertation (grey group)
Your module choices may slow down the time to completion as some of the optional modules run in the same teaching periods. Any module highlighted with a ‘W’ in the table is likely to impact your graduation date. Please speak to your Advisor to understand how your choices may affect your graduation date as soon as possible.

Module availability
To allow for greater flexibility in programme delivery and student selection, each module appears on a regular basis and can be undertaken at different points. For instance, the International Security
Studies module delivered in October 2024 also appears in June 2025 and March 2026. The table below outlines which modules will run in the various intakes throughout the year.
