Applied Artificial Intelligence for Public Policy

This guide provides details on the modules that make up our online Applied Artificial Intelligence for Public Policy MSc programme.

Delivered in a revolving carousel structure, the order in which you study your modules will vary depending on when you begin your programme.

To earn a master’s qualification, you must complete modules totalling 180 credits.

Core modules

You will start the course with the following core modules.

• Programming and Machine Learning (30 credits)
• Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (15 credits)
• Responsible Artificial Intelligence (15 credits)

Group one modules

You must complete two modules from this group: one compulsory and one optional.

Compulsory

• Artificial Intelligence and Public Policy (15 credits)

Optional modules (choose one)

• Artificial Intelligence, Law and Society (15 credits)
• Strategy and Artificial Intelligence (15 credits)
• What is Intelligence? (15 credits)
• Artificial Intelligence and Society (15 credits)

Group two modules

You must complete two modules from this group: one compulsory and one optional.

Compulsory

• The Ethics of AI (15 credits)

Optional modules (choose one)

• Artificial Intelligence Governance (15 credits)
• International Security and Emerging Disruptive Technologies (15 credits)
• Creative Artificial Intelligence: Synthetic Media Production and Criticism (15 credits)
• Education in an AI-Mediated World (15 credits)

Dissertation

You must complete both modules as part of your dissertation.

• Interdisciplinary Research Methods (15 credits)
• Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Project (45 credits)

Each teaching period lasts approximately 10 weeks, and in total, the programme will take you 2 years to complete.
